The latest events accompanied by the platform's rapid growth convinced me to dedicate the entire article to this social media.
You will learn something about the current state of the Bluesky platform and how to approach it. In addition, we will play a little fortune teller and predict its development. Prepared? So let's dive in. 🩵
The article is divided into these parts:
🦋 What is Bluesky and what happened
📈 How to grow on the platform
💫 How to make it a better place
📋 Useful resources
🔮 Prognosis for the future
🦋 What is Bluesky and what happened
The platform is not completely new, but it is re-born.
I will share more information about Bluesky from the time when the platform was just starting, on my profile in the next few days. Stay tuned! 🙂
Bluesky 🦋 is a decentralised social media platform with 20+ million users handled by 20 full-time remote employees. Initially, it started as a side Twitter project in 2019 led by Jack Dorsey. The current CEO of the project is Jay Graber.
In the last couple of months, the platform’s daily active users have peaked. See graphs.
What happened? 👀
2 major events caused an enormous increase in users:
30 August 2024 – 8 October 2024: Brazil banned X in August 2024 after a dispute between the country and the platform, primarily over the issue of disinformation.
5 November 2025 and the short period before: The US elections – many people disgusted with politics and the election results expressed their disappointment by moving to another platform.
📈 How to grow on the platform
Over the past week I've been actively using the platform, I would summarize the recommendations for growth into four steps.
✅ Engage as much as possible (“surprisingly”).
✅ Create unique content (different from that one on other platforms).
✅ Spread the word about your Bluesky presence on other platforms.
✅ Get into starter packs created by owners of larger and smaller accounts.*
*Starter Packs are recommendations of users you should follow on the platform.
You can add up to 150 accounts into one Starter Pack.
I recommend following the Bluesky team – the people who work on the project – so users can receive all updates firsthand.
💫 How to make it a better place
I have a few suggestions on how we can contribute to improving and building the platform. I have chosen these three options.
👉 Invite all major creators from other social media platforms and encourage them to be active there. (When a big creator joins, many people usually follow and migrate.)
👉 Give feedback to the team – you can do so via this form (e.g. feature requests, ideas, etc.)
👉 Make it safer – when I joined in 2023, we moderated collectively. Now, you can report rude or abusive content and users.

Commercial break. 😀 Before we move on, I should say it. You can showcase your service or product to enthusiasts who love entrepreneurship. Just press the button!
📋 Useful resources
The creators left nothing to chance and jumped on the bandwagon. They developed some highly relevant tools for the platform, so I've included the following.
(This is a subjective selection.)
Bluesky Meter – analytics how active you are on the platform
Realtime Blue – real-time Bluesky metrics
Skircle.me – photo of your Bluesky (the most engaged) friends
Sky Follower Bridge – for finding X users on Bluesky
Pinsky – charts, pins, top posts
🔮 Prognosis for the future
In my previous articles, I outlined Marketing and Social media trends in 2025 and Which social media are perspective. Just like before, take it with a grain of salt.🧂
When it comes to me, I am a little bit sceptical. Don't get me wrong, but I was an early adopter (in the last 5 years) of most social media – Clubhouse, BeReal, TikTok Now, Threads, and even AirChat. Some of them blasted in ~2 or 4 weeks (ehm, ehm, AirChat).
The last social network to succeed was TikTok in 2018 (in the US). Since then, the industry has faced challenges. And TikTok doesn't consider itself a social network, but claims to be an "entertainment platform."
Since the president of the most powerful country is Republican Donald Trump, who is friends with Elon Musk, the owner of the social network X, I assume that most of the action will take place on this network, because the media wants to be the first to the source of news and hot topics (like everyone else).
+ Bluesky currently lacks a monetization model. It is funded by venture capital and has stated that it doesn't plan to run ads, sell user data, or use the data to train AI. They are possibly considering a subscription model with "premium" features. This is still questionable but nobody works for free.
The reasons why we are so overly positive about Bluesky are the following:
We are too nostalgic and sentimental about old good Twitter.
We live in our bubbles. 🫧
However, I would be happy to be wrong in my statements and arguments.
A miracle can happen. ✨
After all, TikTok succeeded in 2018, but it came from the less successful project Musical.ly, which was created in 2014. The rise came a few years later.
If the platform can offer something extra to users, differentiate itself enough and find a functional monetization model, nothing is impossible.
I hope this article has provided you with enough insight and some useful information to try out the platform and, in the best case, build it.
I would also be happy if you share this weekly newsletter on your social networks so that your friends can read it too.
Have a nice rest of your day and I look forward to the next Sunday.
All the best,
Nika

Also, I want to thank my Affiliate partner Ugly Duckling who has helped me grow my Twitter (X). 🐤 If you want to be more interactive there too, look at it.
Ensure you follow me on X (Twitter), Bluesky, Product Hunt, LinkedIn, and YouTube.
I am also skeptical, but I am also super curious about what will happen when all the euphoria fades.
Thank you so much Nika!
This is very informative, especially because I am considering talking about my newsletter on Bluesky! X seems a bit too 'oversaturated' and a bit spammy
